Summer is here!

Summer Solstice has officially started, which means only one thing…sunny weather in the U.K! (FINALLY)

Summer can represent different things for different people. New beginnings, time to spend with your family and more moaning about the weather.

The warm weather always creeps up on us every year, and for many we are never truly prepared! That is why our sleep specialists are on hand to help. By the end of this article you & your sleeping pattern will be ready to take on the summer months!

Sleeping In The Warm

For many, sleeping in the warm can be an uncomfortable affair. As we are not used to the constant heat in the U.K we react fairly sensitively to it when it does come around.

Sleep Foundation offers a theoretical approach to sleeping, showing the increase in body temperature can have adverse effects on your body's sleep cycle. The natural thermoregulation that occurs during sleep is negatively impacted, when experiencing hot weather as the heat is likely to wake you up.

Leaving windows open in these conditions seems like a good idea as a nice draft can come through cooling you down on a night. You can also be woken up by the birds chirping in the morning, relaxation at its finest.

However, dependent on your area you may experience an onslaught of moths and other creepy crawlies.

Or alternatively you could leave a fan on overnight. This option again is limited for people due to the rise in energy prices…there’s just no winning!

So what’s your next option?

The Best Materials For Sleeping In The Warm

If leaving the window open is not the best option for you, then we advise turning your attention to the different materials your bed, duvet and/or pyjamas are made from.

Both cotton and linen are great in these warmer months. They are breathable materials meaning having these materials when sleeping will relieve you of any stress in the warmth.

Low thread count weaves should be chosen over the higher thread count weave as they are again more breathable. Examples include percale which is used to make your bed sheets.

For your duvet it is important to have them made from natural materials such as cotton and linen rather than synthetic materials. Synthetic materials do not regulate temperature as well as sweat wicking. The materials brush off any sweet with ease, drying it out so the materials of your sheets are not negatively impacted.

Now finally, for your mattress we would recommend opting for one with a cotton finish.

Our ‘Kensington 3000 Mattress With 3000 Pocket Springs’ would be a perfect fit for you this summer. The built-in brass air vents found in this mattress are great for regulating warm temperatures. The overall properties of this mattress are very heat friendly, boasting cotton borders and covers made from Damask.

We hope you have enjoyed reading this article and you feel more prepared to take on Summer 2022!

We are very pleased with our headboard. We looked at similar ones in bed stores which were at least 3 times the price so we were a bit dubious. But this was unfounded as the quality and finish is excellent. It is solidly made and very heavy. It was made to order. The communication was excellent from order to delivery. It arrived on time and very well wrapped/protected. We would happily buy from Magna Beds again and would recommend.

We have 2 bed and 3 headboards from Magna - all bought for various ‘room makeovers’ and all bought at different stages.. so we are return customers… that says it all!! The quality of the beds and headboards is on a par with leading brands and the turn around time is incredibly quick without any compromise on quality. The pre-sales support with swatches and discussions over the phone is personal and extremely helpful; this assisted us to make the best decisions for our purchases.

Wanted a headboard to match the decor in our master bedroom. I had difficulty getting the colour and finish that I wanted, found Magna bed on line and took advantage of there offer to send me free samples of fabrics. They arrived in just a couple of days and I found just what I wanted. Ordered the headboard on line, absolutely custom made. I was delighted when it was delivered after three weeks, the quality is excellent and such fantastic value. I would recommend them to anyone Thank you
