Can a good morning routine really make a difference to your day?
We’ve all been there, slept through the alarm, got out of bed late, missed our breakfast and first cup of coffee and then had a bad day!
It’s common knowledge that we all need a good morning routine to have a productive and positive day, alongside reducing stress levels. This is taught right from being a child when routines were given. What should we be including in our every day, morning routines?
Set your alarm, write a list of things to do
Technically this isn’t a morning routine but this helps you set your morning off to a good start. Writing a list of things to do the following day acts as a “brain dump” and enables us to switch off for the night. Setting an alarm ensures we are able to wake up in plenty of time and do not have to rush to get out of the door and therefore missing some if not all, of our routine.
Make your bed
By simply making our bed we feel like we’ve already completed our first task of the day. If we make sure even this task is added to the list we wrote the evening before, we can feel accomplished when you’re ticking off your first task of the day. This also instantly makes our bedroom look tidier which will, in turn, help you sleep easier on an evening.
Have a glass of water
We all know we should be drinking plenty of water throughout the day. By drinking a glass of water as soon as you rise you’re already one glass closer to having your required amount and you will also feel encouraged to continue this throughout the day.
Brush your teeth, brush your hair and have a wash
Once you have done this you will immediately feel better about yourself and will be ready to have a productive day.
Have breakfast
A lot of people skip breakfast even though we know this is not the healthiest thing to do. Skipping breakfast leads to snacking, being distracted by your rumbling belly and therefore interrupting our day. A decent breakfast eliminates this.
Exercise
Depending on our lifestyle, this may not suit everyone in the morning. If we have an early start we may have to carry out our exercise in the evening. Whenever you do this, it will always help with your daily routine and sleep hygiene. For example, if you do your exercise in the evening this could act as a stress reliever from a busy day and therefore help with your sleep during the night.
