Have you ever wondered how people in your class are able to sleep so well?
After all, being in education is stressful enough with the expectations and examinations that run rampant.
Believe it or not, there is actually somewhat of an art to getting a good solid night's sleep. One that doesn’t leave you feeling tired when you wake up.
If you are having issues with your sleep, then be sure to read on as we give you some lessons you won’t find in any classrooms!
- No screens!
Many of us use our phones before bed or while watching our favourite Netflix shows. Whilst this may be a good way to unwind after a hectic day, it actually doesn’t do you any good when you want to get to sleep.
Through looking at screens, blue light is emitted. Reducing the amount of blue light is important because it suppresses the amount of melatonin you produce.
Melatonin production is important as this is a hormone that, when released in your body, allows you to become drowsy.

- Ensure you are ready for the next day!
Getting up early in the morning is not everyone’s cup of tea, especially if you have a habit of sleeping in and missing your alarm clock.
Getting yourself ready the night before is a great way to reduce stress on a morning.
Whether it’s getting your lunch ready or having your uniform ironed and ready to wear, ensuring your one step ahead means you are not wasting your time on a morning.
- Read a book!
Reading books is a great way to exercise your brain before bed, putting it to good use understanding the latest advancements in a fantasy novel or a book on ancient civilizations found throughout history.
This is a great way for you to spend more time away from your phone or laptop, allowing more serotonin to be released into your body.
Many have found reading naturally tires you out. We suggest physical paper books over digital devices due to the light they still transmit from the screen to your eyes!

- Try to get yourself into a sleep routine!
Consistency is key!
Even on the weekend, ensure you have a steady sleeping pattern that allows you to sleep and wake at the same time every day.
Your body clock is kept at a consistent time making it easier to fall asleep and also wake up.
When sleeping you go through what is known as deep sleep or REM sleep. Having this form of sleep allows your body and mind to rest properly.
We hope these tips have been helpful for you. Keeping a consistent pattern of sleep may be a hard thing to get started with, however once you have sorted it out you will be thankful for making it a priority!
