What Are Dreams?
There has been a lot of research conducted on the concept of dreams within humans from top researchers around the world.
Summarised: dreams are a long chain of images and stories that are made by the human mind when humans are asleep.
Now does the same apply to animals?
The answer is yes, animals are able to dream! If you hear your dog or cat muttering whilst they are asleep you now know why.
Animal’s Dreams: Explained
Human’s dreams have been studied for over 200 years now, with thinkers like Sigmund Freud & Carl Jung lending their thoughts to early thinking to the science of sleep.
However, only in the last 20 years has there been research on animal’s dreams.
Researchers from Massachusetts Institute of Technology were the earliest contributors to this grey area in 2001. They found that, “Animals have complex dreams and are able to retain and recall long sequences of events while they are asleep”.
This follows a very similar path to that of humans.
Animal’s sleep is just as important as human sleep. It is important to consider the positive and negative outcomes of sleeping with your pet. After all animals deserve to dream too!
